I came to Christ at an early age. I talked with my Mother in our back yard near a bayou/pond of north central Louisiana. I remember wanting to be completely His. So many times, as a young elementary student, I would go to the altar during the church service. My parents were afraid people would think I was trying to get attention, but as they would talk with me, they understood the reality, that I felt a deep conviction over my sin. They wisely let me pursue God as He called. I had asked Jesus to forgive me, but I found myself sinning again and wanted to be in right relationship with God. My heart’s desire then and now, is to be wholly His.
That continued in other areas of my life as well. I received an allowance. I got a nickel for every year old I was, multiplied by the number of weeks in the month. For example, when I was 10 years old, I got a whopping 50 cents a week! But one of those ten nickels would always go to Jesus. I sometimes had to save a little longer for what I wanted, but I was taught, God would provide for my needs. And He always has.
When it comes to being a good steward of my life, whether that is financially, a steward of opportunities, relationships, or my own personal gift mix, it is so important to remember we are partnering with God. We aren’t saved on our own. We are also being led daily by our God. And so, when it comes to using the resources He has entrusted to us, we must realize we are partnering with Him in that area as well.
This Sunday we will be talking about God’s partnership with us financially. Too many people think of tithing as giving up 10% of their income. In reality, tithing is recognizing God gave me 100%. He promises to always have enough to provide for my needs, if I will trust Him. He will partner with me after I honor Him first, to make sure the 90% I have remaining will cover all the needs I have. And folks, He is faithful – ALWAYS!
Let’s talk about it further. I’m looking forward to seeing you on Sunday!
