Looking Deeper

April 5, 2019 By Hoopeston Church Leave a Comment

Do you remember those 3-D pictures that on the surface looked like a pattern, but as you looked into them, you could begin to see deeper and realize there was a three-dimensional “mystery” picture. I had to at times cross my eyes to see the image. But once you actually saw it, it was really exciting. You got to see the full picture where you only saw a pattern before.

I was reminded about that as I thought of a book by Brock Thoene that I read years ago. He was writing about some of the modern history of Jewish people. One of his characters said of the Bible, “Everything means something.” While I’m not sure the word “begat” repeated numerous times has a deeper meaning, I have found that there are such deeper understandings that come when we look critically at Scripture. When we stop to think, to ask questions (questions we don’t immediately know the answers to) and research we often find an exciting picture before us that we never knew was present previously.

I am anticipating that kind of discovery for our folks who come Sunday night to hear Lisa Weisbaum speak at the Christ in the Passover Service. Lisa is from Jews for Jesus. She will be sharing from a Jewish perspective and helping us know some of the deeper meanings of the Passover meal that Gentiles would never grasp on their own. Of course, the Lord’s Supper was originally the Passover meal Jesus shared with his disciples right before his betrayal, death, and resurrection, so the implications have great meaning for us as well.

I hope you will plan to join us this Sunday night at 6 PM. I am so excited for this weekend! I hope to see you there!
